The artwork on the “Last Wall Standing” at the MD Papierfabrik site is finished

The artwork on the “Last Wall Standing” pays tribute to the paper mill’s history and symbolizes the location’s transition to a new design

Dachau, August 10, 2021. The artwork on the “Last Wall Standing” at the MD Papierfabrik site on Ostenstrasse in Dachau, next to Isaria’s information and viewing platform, will only be on display for a short time. The garage building is the last remaining structure on the site and is going to be demolished in early September. This will also spell the end for the artwork by Adrian Till and Johannes Wirthmüller. For the two artists from Dachau’s Outer Circle collective, things are going exactly as expected: “Our art symbolizes transition. By illustrating the paper machines in an abstract manner, we pay tribute to the paper mill’s importance for Dachau and create space for associating with the new. The wall’s disappearance in just under four weeks is entirely consistent with the art project and forms part of it. It will make space for a new vision.”
The Isaria project development company is partnering with Deutsche Wohnen to let all interested residents of Dachau look at the art installation. It will open the space by the information and viewing platform for souvenir photos Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. David Christmann, Managing Director of Isaria: “We believe it is going to be important to create a respectful connection to the past by preserving the heritage-listed building. The former buildings will offer new public spaces when they are repurposed, and social life, culture, and recreational pursuits will be able to take place in them. During the local citizens’ participation in the planning process, it became clear that they wanted preservation and cultural life to have a significant role in the new Mühlbachviertel. We are willing to make this a reality as soon as the City of Dachau completes the development planning process.”

About Outer Circle

Outer Circle e.V. is a collective founded in Dachau to support contemporary fine art and culture. The collective’s members are passionate about this support and independent artistic work. It is for this reason that they joined together to turn their “inner circle” of associates into Outer Circle, a non-profit organization.
The collective’s main objective is to support art in public spaces, run workshops, and provide information as well as create exhibitions. The collective receives funding from the City of Dachau and the Office of Culture.
Their independent work deals with matters including the transformation of writing and typographic symbolization (commonly known as graffiti). The collective focuses on imagery and designs of an abstract and figurative nature. Simultaneously, it also foregrounds the teaching of theory and practice as well as exchange.
